Janice Kang ’20, Kalvin Nash ’18 and Allen Park ’18 presented the results of their summer computational chemistry research at the 16th Annual MERCURY conference.

Biochemistry major Mia Kang ’17 was selected to present her computational biophysical chemistry research on the differential binding kinetics of small molecules to the influenza protein neuraminidase at a special session of the 249th American Chemical Society (ACS) National Meeting and Exposition in Denver. The special session, known as Sci-Mix, brings together the most interesting and important research from each of 25 sub-divisions of the ACS. Kang was chosen as one of 13 presenters out of the 125 presentations submitted to the Division of Computers in Chemistry.

Three longtime members of Hamilton’s science faculty retired during the last academic year. Eugene Domack, Timothy Elgren and Ernest Williams had a combined 79 years of service at Hamilton.

Arlene Blum’s Feb. 21 lecture at Hamilton on “mountains and molecules” began with an autobiographical account of how she has built a remarkable career in otherwise unlikely circumstances.  Blum is founder and executive director of the Green Science Policy Institute (GSPI), an organization that serves as a watchdog group for regulations that may have adverse health effects.

Kimberly Bogardus ’14, Leah Cairns ’13, Lennox Chitsike ’13 and Akritee Shrestha ’13 presented posters at the 57th Annual Biophysical Society Meeting that took place Feb. 2-6 in Philadelphia. They presented results obtained in the research laboratory of Associate Professor of Chemistry Myriam Cotten. The presentations were part of sessions on “Membrane Active Peptides and Toxins.”

Six students  presented posters at the 55th Annual Biophysical Society Meeting that took place in March in Baltimore.  Matthew Baxter ’11, Daryl Berke ’11, Alex Dao ’12, Jason McGavin’12, Nathan Schneck ’11 and William Wieczorek ’11  presented work as part of sessions on “Membrane Active Peptides” and "Interfacial Protein-Lipid Interactions.”
