Dean of Faculty Ngoni Munemo recognized 10 faculty members with Dean’s Scholarly Achievement Awards in three categories — career achievement, early career achievement, and notable year — at the May 2 faculty meeting. These awards recognize individual accomplishment and reflect a richness and depth of scholarship and creative activity across the faculty.

“Lone Star: Ambiguity as a Philosophical Given and a Philosophical Virtue,” by Associate Professor of Philosophy Katheryn Doran, was published as a chapter in Philosophy of Film Without Theory, from Palgrave Macmillan.

The 11th issue of Book XI: A Journal of Literary Philosophy, with the theme "superstitions" has been published.

Hamilton students take on unique projects that reflect their talents and interests. In many cases, they collaborate with faculty mentors on this work, which often leads to co-authored papers, joint presentations at professional conferences, and professors mentoring students during academic competitions. Ten Hamilton faculty members were approved for tenure by the College’s Board of Trustees at its March meeting. They include Ryan Carter (music), Jose Ceniceros (mathematics), Alexsia Chan (government), Justin Clark (philosophy), Matt Grace (sociology), Tom Helmuth ‘09 (computer science), Natalie Nannas (biology), Colin Quinn (anthropology), Anne Valente (literature and creative writing), and Keelah Williams (psychology).

Associate Professor of Philosophy Katheryn Doran recently posted a blog on American Philosophical Association's Current Events in Public Philosophy. In "Phronêsis, or, a Plea for Critical Thinking," she gives a critical account of what philosophers do in the classroom -- and its many uses beyond the classroom.

Professor of Philosophy Russell Marcus was an invited speaker at the Joint Mathematics Meeting (JMM) that took place recently in Boston, and several Mathematics faculty members and students presented research.

The American Philosophical Association (APA) recently awarded the Hamilton College Summer Program in Philosophy (HCSPiP) a Small Program Grant, allowing the program to hire a pedagogy resident for the 2023 session.

Professor of Philosophy Russell Marcus and Catherine Schmitt ’24 were recently awarded an AAPT grant for the Hamilton College Summer Program in Philosophy.

Professor of Philosophy & Africana Studies A. Todd Franklin was a panelist as part of the American Philosophical Association’s Live Event Webinar Series. The panel, "Institutional Support for Public Philosophy: Hiring, Tenure, and Promotion," took place on Nov. 15, and focused on issues surrounding the professional status of the public-facing endeavors of philosophers.
