Two icons in American civil rights history – both Hamilton College graduates – are being remembered at the College with scholarships named in their honor.

Hamilton College President David Wippman announced the death of Life Trustee Drew Days ‘63 in an email to the Hamilton community on Nov. 16

The uneven cadence of fingers on a keyboard is almost background music in residence halls and academic buildings on campus. It could have been yesterday, when Lucas Phillips ’16, editor-in-chief of the campus’ newspaper, The Spectator, checked his email for contributions by his staff; or it may have been more than five decades before, when Henry Allen ’63 sat in his Kirkland Dormitory bedroom completing homework on his typewriter.

An exhibition featuring oil paintings by several members of the Hamilton community will be on display Jan. 31 – March 7 at Utica College’s Edith Langley Barrett Art Gallery. An opening reception for “Imaging Place: […considering the relationship of architecture/place/space]” will be Jan. 31 from 4-6 p.m.

Bill Wilt '63 is running for US Congress, 5th District, Massachusetts, as a write-in candidate of the Preamble Party.

Riley Stepnick ’12 was named first-prize winner in the Alumni Relations office College Song contest. Her song, “I Left My Heart on the Hill,” won $1500 and was performed for the first time at Class & Charter Day by the Hamilton choir. Forty songs -- submitted by students, alumni, faculty and staff -- were entered in the competition. Stepnick, who majored in music at Hamilton, is a music teacher at Buffalo Academy of the Sacred Heart.

The Hamilton community gathered en masse in Wellin Hall on Sept. 24 for the Hamilton College Bicentennial Assembly. The Assembly featured speakers representing members of all parts of the College community. Speakers addressed Hamilton’s distinguished past, bright future and the elements that make the College a truly unique institution. The event served as a keynote feature of the weekend that kicked off the yearlong celebration of Hamilton’s first 200 years.

Margaret Thickstun, the Elizabeth J. McCormack Professor of English, was featured in a USA Today article (5/12/11) about her Milton Marathon. The article was reprinted from Inside Higher Ed. Alumnus John C. Ulreich, ’63 a Milton scholar at the University of Arizona, was also featured in the article for holding the 13th annual Milton Marathon at the University of Arizona.

The Days -Massolo Center at Hamilton College will be formally dedicated on Friday, April 1, during Volunteer Weekend. The Center, which opened on Martin Luther King, Jr. Day, aims to promote diversity awareness and foster dialogue among the many groups on campus. It is named for Hamilton trustees Drew S. Days III ’63 and Arthur J. Massolo ’64.
