Hamilton students in the Program in New York opened their semester with a visit to Richard Bernstein Advisors, an investment advisory organization led by alumnus Rich Bernstein '80. The group traveled to Times Square, where they were met by program participant Katherine Gross '16, who is interning with Bernstein this semester. This semester's Hamilton program is being led by Professor of Economics Erol Balkan and the topic is Global Financial Networks.

John L. Murad, Jr. ’80, has been selected as an Upstate New York Super Lawyer for 2014. Mr. Murad is a partner in the Litigation Practice of the Syracuse, NY-based law firm of Hancock Estabrook, LLP, which is currently celebrating its 125th Anniversary. He has successfully tried cases in State and Federal Court for more than 25 years, obtaining jury verdicts in favor of healthcare institutions and practitioners, product manufacturers, employers, petroleum distributors, and municipalities.

The Hamilton Community showed its support for Autism Awareness Month in April.  Team Hamilton raised $2815 for a walk at SUNY IT on April 26.  Along with the Psi Chi contribution of $1,644 from an April 5 walk in Oneida, and $390 raised by selling Autism Awareness ribbons on World Autism Day on April 2, Team Hamilton raised $4849 for the Kelberman Center.

Five members of Psi Chi, the national honor society in psychology, volunteered at the Walk for Autism fundraiser in Oneida on April 5. April is Autism Awareness Month and the walk was held to benefit The Kelberman Center in Utica, a regional center for excellence for individuals with Autism Spectrum Disorder.  The center was founded by Michael Kelberman ’80.

A collection of intaglio prints by Professors of Art Bruce Muirhead and William Salzillo, along with Amy Buchholz ’80 and Jake Muirhead ’86 – the Atelier Four – will be on display April 4-29 at The Ink Shop Printmaking Center in Ithaca, N.Y.

Visiting Associate Professor of Religious Studies S. Brent Plate discussed the disappearance of churches in Upstate New York and across the nation with alumnus David Chanatry ’80 during Chanatry’s report, “Another Church Shuttered In MohawkValley,” broadcast on public radio station WAMC on Feb. 12. Plate was quoted earlier this week in a Washington Times article titled “Hollywood films a testament to renewed interest in Bible stories.”

Students on Hamilton’s Program in NYC recently paid a visit to Richard Bernstein Advisors, an investment advising firm founded by alumnus Richard Bernstein ’80.  After working at Merrill Lynch as the chief investment strategist, Bernstein left Merrill in 2008 and started his own firm in 2009, in the midst of the Great Recession.

New York Assemblyman Ken Blankenbush (R-122nd District) visited Hamilton College on May 16. He responded to an invitation made during New York Student Aid Alliance Advocacy Day in February in Albany, N.Y., when a group of Hamilton students visited the state capital.  Director of Opportunity Programs Phyllis Breland ’80 said, “He took the time to show that he cared about the experiences and opinions of our Opportunity Program students.”

The 79th Members Exhibition of the Society of American Graphic Artists is on display through June 29.
