For the second year, Hamilton students served as mentors to Clinton Middle School students who are participating in Olympics of the Visual Arts (OVA).  OVA is a state-wide competition where middle schoolers have the opportunity to participate in longer term art projects outside of the classroom.

The Hamilton community this week welcomed Everson Hull, ambassador of St. Kitts and Nevis to the Organization of American States, to meet with students and faculty involved with the upcoming spring break service trip to the island of Nevis, birthplace of Alexander Hamilton. The trip will be led by a Hamilton student service organization with support from Amy James and the Community Outreach and Opportunity Project (COOP).

Eleven Hamilton student volunteers and Assistant Professor of Government Heather Sullivan are spending this week of spring break in San Ramon, Nicaragua, where they’re working on Finca Esperanza Verde, an organic coffee farm.

Many Americans might find the Affordable Care Act difficult to understand, and some may feel daunted by the task of enrolling in health insurance under the new law, but a group of Hamilton College students is helping make the process easier for the surrounding community.

Hamilton College's Peter Kazickas '15 (Amagansett, N.Y./St. Mark's School [Mass.]) is one of 201 men's and women's college basketball players across the U.S. who have been nominated for the 2014 Allstate Good Works Teams®.

Hamilton’s men’s lacrosse team and men’s basketball team took part in the recent Oneida County Intergenerational Clean-Up. Participants work to prepare local senior citizens’ yards for winter.

Seven Hamilton students are winding up their semester volunteering at Tradewinds Education Center of Upstate Cerebral Palsy, which serves students with behavioral and developmental disabilities.

Members of Hamilton’s women’s basketball team took time on April 20 to participate in Oneida County’s 5th annual Intergenerational Clean-up. The women volunteered at Helen Ferro’s home in Utica and Robert Ferguson’s home in Clinton. At both sites the basketball players raked leaves and cleaned the property.  

Members of the Philanthropy Committee (HamGive) took part in the Intergenerational Spring Clean Up sponsored by Oneida County on April 20.  Committee members who took part included Brian Sobotko ’16, Kevin Welsh ’15, Ryan Ong ’16, Suzanne Jacobson ’15, Zoe Lynch ’15, and Jose Vazquez ’15. They cleaned the yard of a homeowner in Clinton.

Five members of Psi Chi, the national honor society in psychology, volunteered at the Walk for Autism fundraiser in Oneida on April 20. April is Autism Awareness Month and the walk was held to benefit The Kelberman Center in Utica, a regional center for excellence for individuals with Autism Spectrum Disorder.  The center was founded by Michael Kelberman ’80. Heather Wixson, associate director of the Career Center, was co-chair of the walk this year.
