  • Dean of Admission and Financial Aid Monica Inzer joined New York Times    education senior editor Jacques Steinberg, on The Today Show to discuss issues related to financial aid on Friday, January 20. Video of this segment can be found on the Times’ admission website, The Choice.

  • Both Dean of Admission and Financial Aid Monica Inzer and Vice President for Information Technology Dave Smallen were quoted in the Oct. 1 issue of University Business magazine. In “Tuition setting: rationale behind determining price in a time of limited budgets,” Inzer discussed the participants and processes in tuition-setting discussions and in “Cloud email: the good the bad the uptime:,” Smallen discussed the elimination of storage costs and improved uptime that resulted when the college converted to gmail.

  • U.S. News & World Report singled out Hamilton as one of the colleges that “are breaking tradition while recruiting prospective students” in an article titled “5 New Ways Colleges Are Reaching High School Students” published on Oct. 17. The Huffington Post also published the piece on its website. 

  • The Washington Post’s College Inc. blog featured Hamilton’s newest admission poster, a silver metallic sheet on which a foot-square QR (quick response) code with one word, “Hamilton,” in large blue lettering is printed. “There is a shortage of new ideas in college recruiting .... Kudos, then, to Hamilton College in New York for being the first institution to think of printing a giant Quick Response code as an admissions poster."

  • An entry on the popular New York Times blog, The Choice, featured a photograph of the Chapel in an article titled “Summer College Tours Withstand High Gas and Airline Prices” on August 11. Dean of Admission and Financial Aid Monica Inzer was interviewed about families making trips to visit the college in this column that focuses on “demystifying college admissions and aid.”

  • University Business magazine featured an opinion piece written by President Joan Hinde Stewart in the Viewpoint section of its May issue. In “Becoming Need-Blind in an Environment of Need: How one institution has made it work,” Stewart discussed how Hamilton is ensuring access, “a deeply held principle at an institution where six of nine senior staff members were the first in their family to attend college.”  She explained the College’s decisions to eliminate merit aid and to adopt a need-blind policy in admission, examples of Hamilton’s commitment to this principle as well as its willingness to make changes counter to current trends in higher education.

  • Accepted students in the class of 2015 are on campus today for Open House. Students and their families will have a day to see if Hamilton is the right choice for them.

  • Before coming to Hamilton, Sam Reider ’14 created a decision tool on a whiteboard to help organize his college choices. During his first year on campus, he converted his process into an automated program and loaded it onto his site www.CollegePick.us. The New York Times’ The Choice, a site designed to “demystify college admissions and aid,” featured Reider’s site in a March 8 article, Online Aid for Making ‘The Decision,’ From a College Freshman.

  • Hamilton College attracted the media’s attention quite often this year in feature stories and news reports. Among the areas most often addressed by the media in covering Hamilton were topics related to the admission process.

  • Junior Yinghan Ding  was featured in The New York Times' Education Life section on Nov. 7 in an article titled “The China Boom.” Dean of Admission Monica Inzer was also quoted in The New York Times’ Education Life section on Nov. 7 as well as in the education blog The Choice on Nov. 4.
