For decades, Hamilton’s diversity overnight program has welcomed prospective students to the Hill to provide them with an opportunity to visit campus, attend classes, and experience life as a Hamilton student. On Sept. 17, 41 students from all around the country arrived for the first of this year’s two three-day programs

The College is partnering with QuestBridge, a California-based nonprofit that connects high-achieving, low-income students with highly selective colleges and universities.

A revamped SAT, a new college-application platform, financial aid, endowment spending and issues related to recruitment and retention were among the topics addressed during a recent media roundtable attended by Vice President of Admission and Financial Aid Monica Inzer.  One of the immediate results of the session was an article that appeared on Aug. 3 on The Atlantic site titled “The Pitfalls of Free Tuition” in which Inzer was quoted extensively.

A New York Times article about a service called College Abacus that provides financial aid information for college-bound students featured Hamilton as a college willing to work with that service to ensure that accurate data would be available.  The Jan. 16 article titled “Concealing the Calculus of Higher Education” included photos of campus as well as of Director of Financial Aid Cameron Feist.

This year the national media highlighted the college’s focus on expanding access and equalizing experiences on campus in several major articles. Outlets featuring these Hamilton policies and programs included The Chronicle of Higher Education, Huffington Post and the Hechinger Report. The college also received broad national media attention most recently with the announcement of its incoming president, David Wippman, via an Associated Press news story.

Hamilton’s need-blind admission policy is the focus of a Dec. 18 feature story published by Huffington Post titled “How One Top College Ended a Policy that Weeded Out Poor Students.” The article detailed how Hamilton made the decision to eliminate merit scholarships and later to adopt the need-blind policy that eliminates applicants' financial need from consideration in admission decisions.

On Tuesday, Oct. 20, 2015 at 2 p.m., Dean of Admission and Financial Aid Monica Inzer will join Georgia Institute of Technology Director of Undergraduate Admission Rick Clark and former editor and current editor to The Chronicle of Higher Education Jeff Selingo in a webinar sponsored by the Chronicle titled Navigating the New Admissions Landscape. Hamilton welcomes accepted students for its annual Admission Open house on Monday, April 20. Students accepted for the Class of 2019 along with their families will be on campus to experience “a day in the life” on the Hill.

The Hechinger Report recently interviewed President Joan Stewart for a feature article focused on Hamilton’s initiatives to expand access and equalize student experience on campus.  The article appeared online on March 17 on The Hechinger Report website and the Washington Monthly magazine "College Guide" website.

Hamilton College President Joan Hinde Stewart has been invited and will attend an all-day summit on Thursday, Jan. 16, hosted by President Barack Obama and First Lady Michelle Obama in Washington.
