Galia Slayen ’13, who with Perry Ryan ’12 provided the impetus for Hamilton’s participation in the National Eating Disorder Awareness Week (NEDAW), was featured on NBC’s Today Show on Monday, April 18, in live interviews at both the 8 and 10 a.m. hours. Director of New Media  J.D. Ross was interviewed for an article in The Chronicle of Higher Education titled "Colleges Rehab Their Web Sites for Major Payoffs" that appeared online and  in the publication’s April 18 issue.

William Billiter, director of foundation, corporate and government relations, has written a book of poetry titled Stutter (University of Georgia Press, April 1, 2011). Stutter was a winner in the 2010 National Poetry Series, an award program judged by distinguished national poets.

Hamilton librarians Glynis Asu and Carolyn Carpan and ITS staff members Maureen Scoones and Nikki Reynolds presented a poster at the biannual Association of College & Research Libraries conference in Philadelphia on March 31.

Director of New Media J.D. Ross was quoted in a New York Times article titled “A Facebook ‘Welcome’ That May Not Be” on Dec. 8. The article, which also appeared on the paper’s “The Choice” blog, described the activities of a firm called Roomsurf.

William Billiter, director of foundation, corporate and government relations, is a 2010 winner in the National Poetry Series, a literary awards program which sponsors the publication of five books of poetry each year.

Couper Librarian Randall Ericson has compiled a bibliography of the works of prominent 20th century author and Nobel prize winner Aleksandr Solzhenitsyn. Spanning the years 1962-75, it includes translations of Solzhenitsyn’s work into all languages, as well as miscellaneous non-literary works such as letters and Solzhenitsyn’s statements to the Soviet Writers’ Union. One of the Solzhenitsyn’s most recognized and celebrated publications, One Day in the Life of Ivan Denisovich, was first published in 1962.

Carolyn Carpan, Burke Library’s director of public services, has been elected to serve as member-at-large on the executive committee of the Association of College and Research Libraries (ACRL) College Libraries Section. Her two year term will begin at the end of June.

Janet Simons, associate director of Institutional Technology and co-director of the Digital Humanities Initiative, Graphic Design Instructional Technologist Krista Siniscarco, Reference Librarian and Coordinator of Library Marketing/Outreach Kristin Strohmeyer and Gabriela Arias ’11 participated in the Media Scholarship in the Liberal Arts workshop held in March at the University of Massachusetts, Amherst.

Associate Director of Institutional Technology and Co-Director of the Digital Humanities Initiative Janet Simons presented a paper at the National Institute for Technology in Liberal Education (NITLE) Summit on March 26, in New Orleans.

Carolyn Carpan, Burke Library’s director of public services, has published “Introducing Information Literacy 2.0,” the first installment of her new column “Library Services in the Age of Google.” The column appears in the latest edition of College & Undergraduate Libraries, a quarterly journal that provides practical information for the librarians and staff of undergraduate institutions.
