Three Hamilton environmental studies majors — Emily Benson ’23, Katie Tanner ’23, and Ellie Sangree ’24 — presented their research at the American Geophysical Union Annual Meeting in Chicago in December. The students were accompanied by Aaron Strong and Heather Kropp, assistant professors of environmental studies.

Director of the Health Center Barb Fluty received the New York State College Health Association’s 2022 Vincent J. Lamparella Award for Perseverance and Leadership in College Health on Dec. 15. The award recognizes college health professionals who contribute time, talent, and leadership to bolster and strengthen their own health service and/or NYSCHA when needed most.

Heather Buchman is the Carolyn C. and David M. Ellis ’38 Distinguished Professor of Music and director of the Hamilton College Orchestra and the Chamber Music program. But it was through her other role — guest conductor for Symphoria, Syracuse’s professional orchestra — that she received a recent distinction.

Two Hamilton chemistry faculty and three students presented their research at the Southeastern Regional Meeting of the American Chemical Society in San Juan, Puerto Rico, from Oct. 18 to 22.

Hamilton alumni, parents, and friends were welcomed on College Hill by an autumn chill and plenty of sunshine for Fallcoming/Family Weekend, Sept. 23 to 25.

KinHo Chan joined Hamilton on Sept. 1 as dean of engaged education. In this role, he will oversee the ALEX (Advise, Learn, EXperience) program, a coordinated advising network tailored for each student’s academic success, career preparation, experiential learning, and personal growth, which phased in with the Class of 2025. 

Hamilton welcomes 48 new faculty members, including nine new tenure-track, in addition to visiting professors, lecturers, and teaching fellows for the 2022-23 academic year. The College is in the midst of a 10-year period, begun in 2015, during which nearly half of its faculty will reach average retirement age.
