  • The town of Kirkland and village of Clinton are the Mohawk Valley recipients of a $10 million Downtown Revitalization Initiative grant from New York State. It’s part of a total state commitment of $100 million in DRI funding and investments to help communities boost their economies by transforming downtowns into vibrant neighborhoods.

  • Retired Navy Adm. Michelle J. Howard will deliver Hamilton’s 2023 Commencement address and receive an honorary degree on Sunday, May 21, at 10:30 a.m., in the Margaret Bundy Scott Field House. Howard chaired the 2020-22 Congressional Naming Commission that identified and made recommendations to remove, rename, or modify Department of Defense assets that commemorated the Confederacy or those who voluntarily served it.

  • For the 19th consecutive year, Hamilton College has been named a Fulbright U.S. Student Program top-producing institution. Sixteen students and six graduates applied for the 2022-23 academic year cycle. Of those, 13 students were named semi-finalists, 10 received the grant, and one was selected as an alternate.

  • Nine students spent part of their winter break teaming up with Maxwell Akuamoah-Boateng ’09 on a community service project in Philadelphia. Akuamoah-Boateng, who serves as the city’s director of operations for community schools, organized the Alternate Break (AXB) trip that focused on youth engagement/urban service.

  • On Jan. 14, 45 new members of the Class of 2026 officially joined the Hamily. Orientation leaders provided a warm welcome to the January admits as they checked in, moved into their residence hall homes, and got right to it with orientation group meetings, a welcome luncheon with President David Wippman, Dean of Faculty Ngoni Munemo, Vice President for Enrollment Management Monica Inzer, and Dean of Students Chris Card. They signed the College register at matriculation in Buttrick Hall and learned about Hamilton’s Honor Code.

  • Three Hamilton environmental studies majors — Emily Benson ’23, Katie Tanner ’23, and Ellie Sangree ’24 — presented their research at the American Geophysical Union Annual Meeting in Chicago in December. The students were accompanied by Aaron Strong and Heather Kropp, assistant professors of environmental studies.

  • Director of the Health Center Barb Fluty received the New York State College Health Association’s 2022 Vincent J. Lamparella Award for Perseverance and Leadership in College Health on Dec. 15. The award recognizes college health professionals who contribute time, talent, and leadership to bolster and strengthen their own health service and/or NYSCHA when needed most.
