  • Lisa Parles '84 spoke on World Autism Awareness Day at the Autism Awareness Panel at the United Nations Headquarters, addressing the needs of individuals with autism who exhibit challenging behaviors.

  • When Hamilton community members recently gathered in the Kennedy Auditorium to hear John Werner ’92 talk about augmented reality, they quickly realized that this wouldn’t be a typical lecture. Werner interacted with the audience after each section of his presentation, soliciting comments and “a-ha moments” in order to get a sense of the individuals in the auditorium. He also brought his augmented reality device to demo and show students after the talk, which was the highlight for many.

  • Calling herself “the biggest fan of Dan Chambliss,” whose research she cites in her best-selling book Grit: The Power of Passion and Perseverance, Angela Duckworth explained to a large Chapel audience that success depends on grit - the propensity to pursue goals with sustained passion.

  • Al Tillery, a professor of political science at Northwestern University spoke at Hamilton about “The Legacy of Barack Obama” in a lecture on Feb. 6.

  • Greg Thomas ’85 published “Reading Albert Murray in the Age of Trump.”

  • There was not an empty seat at the Jan. 24 panel discussion in the Levitt Center 2016 Election Series, “International Challenges for the Trump Presidency: East Asia, Latin America and the Mid-East.” Government faculty Alexsia Chan, Heather Sullivan and Kira Jumet shared their analyses on how political developments around the globe might affect the Trump presidency before engaging in a conversation with attendees.

  • Alexandra Coursen K’77 is a finalist in the international harp composition contest known as The Future Blend Project. Coursen is the only woman out of 13 finalists selected. She has only recently started composing, which only adds to this accomplishment. In 2014 she composed her first piece for the harp; by the end of the following year, she composed five others.
