Director of the Jazz Archive Monk Rowe gave a talk at the 30th annual conference of the International Association for Jazz Education. The conference, "Jazz — Crossing All Borders," was held Jan. 8-11 in Toronto, Canada.

Assistant Professor of Government Yael Aronoff comments on Iraq and U.S./Arab Relations. She says, "Resolving the Israeli-Palestinian conflict would do more for the war against terrorism than would an invasion of Iraq."

Maurice Isserman, William R. Kenan Jr. Professor of History, wrote a review, published in Preservation Magazine, of Exploring Lewis and Clark: Reflections on Men and Wilderness authored by Thomas P. Slaughter (Knopf).

Assistant Professor of English Gillian Gane presented a paper, "Terror and Transformation in the Air: Postcolonial Imaginings of Air-Space," in December at the annual meeting of the South Asian Literary Association in New York City.

Professor of Chinese Hong Gang Jin has been elected to the board of directors of the Chinese Language Teachers' Association. Jin will serve on the board until November 2005. CLTA is a professional organization devoted exclusively to the study of Chinese language, culture and pedagogy.

Hamilton College soccer player Schuyler Gellatly '03, earned 2nd team Collegiate Scholar All-America. Thirty-three men who play college soccer in the United States were honored with this award. The NSCAA/adidas Scholar All-America teams will be recognized at a luncheon on Saturday, Jan. 18, as part of the 2003 NSCAA Convention in Kansas City, Mo.

A Baseball Dynasty: Charlie Finley's Swingin' A's, authored by Bruce Markusen '87, tells the story of Oakland’s colorful, controversial, and highly successful teams of the early 1970s. This newly released edition contains added interviews with A’s stars Joe Rudi, Gene Tenace, Jim “Mudcat” Grant, and John “Blue Moon” Odom. Markusen is also the author of  The Orlando Cepeda Story and Roberto Clemente: The Great One.

As part of the Emerson Gallery Exhibit, "Whistler and His Contemporaries: Prints of Venice," Sinclair Hitchings, Keeper of Prints for the Boston Public Library, will present a slide lecture on Tuesday, Jan. 28, at 6 p.m. in the Chemistry Auditorium. The Emerson Gallery will host "Whistler and His Contemporaries: Prints of Venice" through March 30. This unique exhibition will present some of the finest etchings made by James McNeill Whistler, a leading figure in the etching revival of the late 19th century.

Professor of Government Cheng Li appeared as part of a "Year End Special" for CNN Moneyline in December. Li was interviewed about the political changes in China. The program aired again on January 1.

Assistant Professor of Psychology Julie Dunsmore organized senior thesis presentations in Psychology and Neuroscience on Wednesday, Dec. 2. Thirteen seniors made powerpoint presentations of their work. Presentations included research from areas such as Alzheimer's Disease, the eating habits of runners, and infant motor development.
