Members of the Hamilton’s men’s basketball team and coach Adam Stockwell dished out an assist as they volunteered with the 5th annual Intergenerational Clean-up on April 21. Armed with rakes and garbage bags the team cleaned up the yard of some New York Mills senior citizens.

On April 12 at midnight the Hamilton College Film Production Guild ran its spring semester 24-Hour Film Festival. Taylor Coe ’13, the president of the Guild, along with Kayla Safran ’13 and Evan Van Tassell ’13 organized the event. Nine teams initially signed up, and four films were completed and submitted by the deadline.

Michael Breslin’13 has been awarded Hamilton’s prestigious Bristol Fellowship. Breslin, a theater major, will undertake a project titled “Gender Play: Displaying, Transgressing, and Transcending Gender Identity in World Theatre,” and travel to Germany, Poland, Australia, Indonesia and Japan.

Look at campus e-mail on any given day during Hamilton’s academic year and chances are there’s a service opportunity seeking volunteers. The people behind these numerous events are the Community Outreach and Opportunities Program (COOP) Senior Fellows – Danielle Lashley, Ramya Ramnath and Amy Soenksen. They coordinate volunteer requests with local non-profits, plan events and organize volunteers.

Denise Ghartey ’12 has been awarded Hamilton’s Bristol Fellowship. The Bristol Fellowship was begun in 1996 as part of a gift to the college by William M. Bristol Jr., (Class of 1917). The $22,000 fellowship is designed to encourage Hamilton students to experience the richness of the world by living outside the United States for one year and studying an area of great personal interest.

Richard Karrat ’12, a candidate for May graduation, has been awarded a Fulbright Teaching Assistantship to Jordan. A Dean’s List student, Karrat is a French and world politics major at Hamilton.

Lucas Harris ’12 has been awarded a Fulbright Grant to Finland. He will spend the 2012-13 academic year working under Dr. Miska Luoto at the University of Helsinki, studying how individual plant species in subarctic Finland will react to climate change.

Austin Walker ’12 was selected to attend the Clinton Global Initiative University conference, March 30 – April 1 at George Washington University in Washington, D.C.

Pat Dunn ’12, a candidate for May graduation, has been awarded a Fulbright Teaching Assistantship to Malaysia. He is an environmental studies and creative writing major at Hamilton.

Laura Gilson ’12, a candidate for May graduation, has been awarded a Fulbright Teaching Assistantship to Indonesia. A Dean’s List student, she was elected to Phi Beta Kappa in February. Gilson is an English literature major and art history minor at Hamilton.
