  • Kureem Nugent ’18, Isabel O'Malley ’18, Paula Ortiz ’18, and Marquis Palmer ’18 have been named Watson Fellows providing them a $30,000 stipend to pursue a “year of independent, purposeful exploration” abroad. Although students from 40 peer schools are eligible to receive these awards, no other school had more than three recipients this year.

  • Six Hamilton Outing Club (HOC) members who have trained together, led trips in tandem, and have gathered innumerable times in the Glen House are ready to set off in different directions, having secured outdoor leadership positions.

  • The Hamilton Mathletics Team, Coached by Associate Professor of Mathematics Andrew Dykstra, took part in the annual William Lowell Putnam Mathematical Competition on Dec. 3.

  • The Hamilton College Chapter of Sigma Xi, the scientific research society, elected seven members of the Class of 2015 to associate membership on May 5. The students are: Nikole Bonacorsi, Deanna Cho, Hannah Ellerbrock, Maxwell Lopez, Christiana Westlin, Kassandra Zaila and Hannah Zucker.

  • Hamilton’s barbershop quartet, The Major Four-Teens, won the Seneca Land District collegiate quartet competition on April 11 in Geneva, N.Y. Seniors Gabe Mollica (tenor), Jake Taylor (lead), Andrew Rippel (baritone) and Will Robertson (bass) make up the quartet.

  • “Got milk?” For a group of Hamilton student researchers, the well-known slogan might be modified to “Got calcium?” The most abundant metal in our bodies and a valuable component of milk, calcium serves functions well beyond building strong teeth and bones. Hamilton research students, working with Douglas Weldon, the Stone Professor of Psychology, are examining how our mental processes depend on calcium.  The compound performs lesser known, but essential, roles in blood clotting, chemical signaling and action potential firing.

  • On the morning of Sunday, June 9, Deanna Nappi ’15 and Kerri Grimaldi ’15 took a break from their typical routines.  The two Hamilton students traveled to the Adirondack region to participate in the ninth annual Lake Placid Marathon.  After selecting a lengthy playlist from their iPods and a pre-race warm up, the two women did not stop running until they crossed the finish line.

  • Academic achievement prizes, prize scholarships and other recognition of student accomplishments were awarded at Hamilton’s 63rd annual Class & Charter Day convocation on Monday, May 13, in the Chapel. Among the top prizes Nicholas Solano ’14 was awarded the Milton F. Fillius Jr. /Joseph Drown Prize Scholarship, and Susannah Parkin ’13 was named the recipient of the James Soper Merrill Prize.

  • Members of the Hamilton’s men’s basketball team and coach Adam Stockwell dished out an assist as they volunteered with the 5th annual Intergenerational Clean-up on April 21. Armed with rakes and garbage bags the team cleaned up the yard of some New York Mills senior citizens.

  • On April 12 at midnight the Hamilton College Film Production Guild ran its spring semester 24-Hour Film Festival. Taylor Coe ’13, the president of the Guild, along with Kayla Safran ’13 and Evan Van Tassell ’13 organized the event. Nine teams initially signed up, and four films were completed and submitted by the deadline.
