  • Murder Ballad, the second collection of poems by Assistant Professor of English Jane Springer, has been named co-winner of the 2013 New England Poetry Club Sheila Motton Prize, 2013.  The category was judged by poet Vivian Shipley.

  • Assistant Professor of English and Creative Writing Jane Springer has been awarded a prestigious  MacDowell Fellowship for a residency at the Colony in Peterborough, N.H. , from Sept. 19 – Oct.  17.  The MacDowell Colony is the nation’s leading artist colony; it nurtures the arts by offering creative individuals of the highest talent an inspiring environment in which they can produce enduring works of the imagination.

  • Visiting Assistant Professor of English Jane Springer has won a Pushcart Prize for her poem "Murder Ballad" which originally appeared in the winter 2010 edition of Cincinnati Review.  Springer’s poem will be reprinted in The Pushcart Prize XXXVI: Best of the Small Presses.

  • Visiting Assistant Professor of English Jane Springer has been selected as the 2011 winner of the Beatrice Hawley Award for her book of poetry, Murder Ballad.  The award is given by Alice James Books, a nonprofit cooperative poetry press founded in 1973. Springer will receive $2,000 and her book will be published with Alice James Books in May 2012.

  • Visiting Assistant Professor of English Jane Springer has six new poems published in this spring’s issue of The Southern Review. The poems are titled “Looks Like the Hound That Caught the Car”; “Nocturne: So Mixed Up She Don’t Know Daylight from Dark”; “In a Coon’s Age”;   “Don’t Know a Stranger”; “I’ll Wear the Hound out of That”; and “Pretty As You Please.” The Southern Review is published by Louisiana State University.  

  • Hamilton College Visiting Assistant Professor of English Jane Springer has been named one of 10 recipients of the 2010 Whiting Writers’ Award by the Mrs. Giles Whiting Foundation. The awards of $50,000 each have been given annually since 1985 to writers of exceptional talent and promise in early career.
