Susan Lisa Fried Perl ’81

Susan Lisa Fried Perl ’81, a marketing director of New York City, was born on Aug.12, 1959, in Washington, D.C., the daughter of Shelah and Peter Fried. At Hamilton, she majored in philosophy.

After graduation, she entered a training program at Bloomingdale’s department store in Manhattan. That led to several positions in marketing, among them marketing manager at American Cyanamid’s Jacqueline Cochran division, director of marketing at Cosmair, Inc. (now L’Oreal USA), director of marketing/cosmetics for Estée Lauder, Inc., and brand marketing and strategy consultant for Rodale. Most recently she worked on writing projects.

Perl was “a lover of beaches and Paris, of books and beauty, who took pride in her critical eye and bright mind, an original thinker and poignant writer, deeply dedicated mother and daughter, and profoundly loving life partner and friend,” a published obituary noted.

Susan L. Fried Perl died on March 21, 2018, after a three-plus year battle with cancer. She was 58. Perl is survived by her husband, Richard Perl, a daughter, and a son.

Eric J. Lyboldt ’82

Eric J. Lyboldt ’82, a businessman and hotel worker of Baldwinsville, N.Y., was born on Oct. 3, 1960, in Fulton, N.Y., a son of the former Dawn Woode, an attorney, and James Lyboldt, a businessman. He graduated from G. Ray Bodley High School in Fulton.

On the Hill, Lyboldt majored in history. He was a member of the College Choir, Keehn Co-op, Student Services, The Spectator, the Alexander Hamilton Players, and the Charlatans.

For the 1990 Alumni Register survey, Lyboldt reminisced on his years on the Hill: “The diversity & quality of my Hamilton experience touched every facet of my life. The flexibility of mind and the development of analytical, social & conclusive skills are an asset in any field and especially in my career where management & public relations are important.”

Lyboldt earned his master’s degree in 1990 from Syracuse University and worked as a fleet operations manager for Palmer’s Chevrolet and Buick, as well as for Palmer Granite, Inc., both in Fulton. He was employed as an accounts clerk for the Holiday Inn in Liverpool, N.Y., for 18 years, where he devoted his energy to doing the best job possible, according to a published obituary.

Lyboldt was a past member of SAGE Upstate and supported LGBT activities whenever possible, the obituary noted. He also served his alma mater as a volunteer on behalf of the Hamilton Annual Fund.

Eric J. Lyboldt died on March 15, 2018, at the age of 57. He is survived by his mother, a sister, and his fiancé.
