Our Community Mural celebrating elections and democracy is a collectively-created piece of art that explores themes such as the right to vote, free speech as a cornerstone of democracy, respectful expression of diverse opinions, and the role of elections in shaping our future. This project is open to everyone on campus as an opportunity to affirm the importance of engagement in the democratic process.
The completed mural will take center stage at our Campus Art Festival on Friday, Nov. 1, beginning at 11 a.m. in the Sadove Underground. Join us for food trucks, performances, swag, and opportunities for conversation and artistic collaboration.

How to Participate

In-Person Art

Beinecke Student Activities Village (formerly the Mail Center)
Available through Friday, Oct. 25, 6 a.m.-11 p.m. (regular building hours)

Let your creative ideas flow! We’ve got canvases and art supplies ready for you—whether you’re a seasoned artist or a first-time painter, this is your chance to leave a mark on our campus. Choose from one of the 24 canvases and express your thoughts on democracy, solo or with friends.

Digital Art

Submission Deadline: Friday, Oct. 25

We also invite the community to share individual creative work (art, music compositions, short stories, poems, digital pieces, short films, etc.) inspired by the elections. Submit your work via Interfolio. 

Participation Guidelines

To ensure that the mural reflects the spirit of the Hamilton community, we encourage collaborative creativity. Feel free to stroll around and gather inspiration from other canvases before you start your masterpiece.

  • Respectful: Please avoid painting over others’ work. If you’re inspired by someone else’s idea, find a fresh canvas to respond on.
  • Inclusive: The completed mural will showcase the diverse voices within our community. We can’t wait to see what you add to it!
