Event Description

Photography turned American presidents into celebrities. In this talk, historian Matthew Fox-Amato examines the place of photography within the Lyndon B. Johnson (LBJ) presidential administration (1963-1969).  By focusing on the work of White House photographer Yoichi Okamoto, Amato reveals how Okamoto’s fly-on-the-wall style made visual performance central to the daily workings of the presidency.
