Event Description

FYC Conversation: Ty Seidule, Reacting to the Past

RSVP here

To continue our conversations around innovative pedagogical approaches for engaging students in their First-Year Courses, the FYC Advisory has invited Ty Seidule, Visiting Professor of  History, to discuss his strategies for promoting dialogue on challenging issues through his use of “Reacting to the Past” role-playing games. Please share this event with any interested parties!

Use of Role-Playing Games to Promote Classroom Dialog

"Reacting to the Past is an active learning pedagogy of role-playing games designed for higher education. In Reacting to the Past games, students are assigned character roles with specific goals and must communicate, collaborate, and compete effectively to advance their objectives. Reacting promotes engagement with big ideas, and improves intellectual and academic skills. Class sessions are run by students. Instructors advise students, and grade their oral and written work. Reacting roles and games do not have a fixed script or outcome."

Upcoming lunch conversations:

April 21: Russell Marcus to discuss Team-Based Learning Models May 8: Rachel White to discuss her FYC on Thriving in College
