Mariangela Ugarelli is a writer and literary critic. She received her B.A. in Hispanic Literature from the Pontificia Universidad Católica del Perú and is finishing her Ph.D. at Johns Hopkins University. Ugarelli’s work encompasses Spanish American gothic, horror, minor literatures, the female Gothic, and eco-Gothic. She is currently working on her dissertation on twentieth century Spanish American Gothic titled “In Cobwebs, in Storms, in Chains:” The Gothic in Spanish American Short Fiction. As a writer she has published two short story collections that explore her interest in the intersection between the Gothic and representations of nature.

Research Interests

Gothic literature, Ecogothic, Latin American literature, genre studies and gender studies.
