The Senior Program

The Senior Program at Hamilton is a culminating intellectual experience in which students draw on and integrate the knowledge, research and language skills gained in the first three years. At the center of the Senior Program is the senior project, which in Russian studies usually takes the form of an extended research thesis or translation using Russian-language sources and carried out under the close supervision of at least one faculty member.

Recent projects in Russian studies include:

  • The Joy of the Russes: An Analysis of Alcoholism in the Soviet Union
  • Crafting the Soviet Child: Children’s Poetry in the Soviet Union
  • Earning Peace: An Analysis of Mikhail Bulgakov's Satirical Revenge in The Master and Margarita
  • Rebuild, Recreate, Dominate: An Investigation into Party Involvement in Soviet Physical Culture and Sport
  • Russia Between the East and West: A Study of Fyodor Mikhailovich Dostoevsky's Writings in the 1870s
  • From Dikanka to Mirgorod: The Ways N.V. Gogol Represents Ukraine
