Event Description

The Levitt Center in collaboration with the Government Department invite you to join us for lunch and a talk by Associate Professor of Government Heather Sullivan entitled  "Immigration: Exporting problems and policies to Latin America"

With the US presidential campaign in full swing, Democrats and Republicans alike have taken a hard line on immigration. Left out of most political conversations, however, is a discussion of a policy central to both the Trump and Biden administrations: outsourcing immigration control to Latin America. Latin American countries have enacted a series of policies intended to keep migrants from reaching the US border. This lunch conversation will cover the ways that Latin American countries are being affected by the unprecedented wave of migrants passing through the region and the policies that have been pushed on these transit countries by the United States.

Please RSVP here for lunch.
