Mapping and Camping with Barb Tewksbury: June 9th: Students traveled to Boulder, CO to meet up with Geology Department Chair, Barbara Tewksbury, for three separate mapping sessions. The first two days consisted of mapping and analyzing Six-Mile Fold near Boulder. June 11th: Professor Tewksbury and the students drove to Colorado Springs to visit and map in The Garden of the Gods. June 12th: Students drove to Molas Lake in the West Needles, elevation 10,000 ft, to map for five days. There, they learned how to map and interpret major structures in the West Needles.
Molas Lake In addition to the mapping, students had the opportunity to take a trip into the 'Ol Hundred Mine in Silverton, CO. There, students learned how gold prospectors extracted and processed precious resources. On a separate trip, the students traveled to Ouray for a dip in the naturally occuring hot springs. |
