Information about nonprofit careers may be found in books, web sites, and trade publications.

Books in the Career Center library include such titles as:

How To Live Your Dream of Volunteering Overseas
Jobs & Careers with Nonprofit Organizations
Careers for Good Samaritans & Other Humanitarian Types
Alternatives to the Peace Corps

Selected Web sites for exploring specific areas of focus are listed on the right.

Trade publications are a great way to keep current on your field of your interest. Often published by professional or trade associations, they include magazines, newspapers and journals, and serve just about every type of employer in the nonprofit sector. (See sample list on right)

Talk with people in the field
Visiting people in their work settings to ask them about their line of work helps you to:

* learn about the field in general
* explore the types of opportunities available
* decide if it's the kind of place in which you'd like to work.

Both Hamilton and Colgate Career Services have handouts on informational interviewing with questions you might consider asking during your conversation.
