Outing Club Members Explore Ecuador

Over winter break, members of the Hamilton Outing Club joined Director Andrew Jillings in Ecuador for three weeks of trekking, hiking, waiting out the rain and exploring the rainforest. Clair Stover ’14, Hanna Kingston ’15, Lindsey Luker ’15, Annie Emanuels ’16, Alex Doig ’16 and Jillings began the trip with a five-day trek around Piñan, a remote village tucked among the Andes.  More ...

Hamilton Students and Staff Present at Annual AEE Conference

More than 20 Hamilton students and staff members attended the Association for Experiential Education (AEE) annual Northeast Regional Conference in Becket, Mass., from April 5-7. Hamilton students attended a wide variety of workshops covering all aspects of experiential and wilderness education. The Hamilton Outdoor Leadership Center has been sending students to the conference for many years.  More ...

HOC Introduces Rookies to Ice Climbing

The Hamilton Outing Club (HOC) ran two introductory ice climbing trips to the Adirondacks on Feb. 22-24. The trips, led by Director of Outdoor Education Andrew Jillings, focused on teaching students the basics of climbing waterfall ice using crampons and ice tools.  More ...

Marathon Canoe Racing Team Competes in Adirondack Classic

The Hamilton College Marathon Canoe Racing Team kicked off its first fall as an official club sport with four boats in the 29th Adirondack Canoe Classic, “The 90-Miler.” Over the weekend of Sept. 9-11, these teams raced with more than 250 other boats in the event hosted by the Adirondack Watershed Alliance.  More ...

Interns Gear up for First-Year Pre-Orientation

Campus slows down markedly during the summer months, with only about 10 percent of the student body remaining, conducting research with faculty or working at jobs in various offices. Three Hamilton students, Christine Roback ’12, Helen Higgins ’13, and Bobby Finan ’13, are working tirelessly alongside Director of Outdoor Leadership Andrew Jillings and Director of Outreach and Orientation Amy James in preparation for the August arrival of more than 200 first-year students participating in Hamilton’s pre-orientation programs.  More ...
