In what I now believe is a shock therapy attempt by my family to refine my crumbum ways (they haven't won yet, I'm typing this now with one sock on foot and one stick of cookie dough in hand), our class was once again treated to a cultural event, this time in the form of the New York City Opera.

The trip began with a lecture from one of the Opera house regulars, who gave us some helpful background on "Mourning Becomes Electra". The talk was interesting, but we were literally blown away be the impromptu "Sound of Music" rendition by our host. Sitting only a few feet back from us in the small practice room, she belted it out with amazing force.

After the talk we were all treated to a fancy dinner right there in the Opera House, which was a nice change of pace from Top Ramen and cookie dough sticks. We then took our seats in the mezzanine for the big show. The concept was a sort of colonial times Greek tragedy, which of course meant that nothing was going to end well. If anything, I learned that you can't just kill your problems away like some sort of tragic Kill-bot. I won't exactly be humming any of the songs on my way to work, but it was definitely an emotional tour de force in its way. While season tickets probably aren't in my future, the performance was absolutely an experience I won't soon forget.
