Dr. James Afful Clarke, Ghanaian ophthalmologist and Unite for Sight medical advisory board member, will give a lecture titled “Global Health Delivery in Ghana: Reaching the Poorest of the Poor” on Tuesday, April 19, at 7:30 p.m., in the Science Center’s Kennedy Auditorium. The lecture is free and open to the public.

 

His lecture will cover the basics of community health care delivery in third world countries, the health obstacles faced by impoverished African communities, and his involvement with Unite for Sight, a non-profit eye health organization which sponsors free eye exams, surgeries and medications to impoverished communities around the world. He works closely with Unite for Sight volunteers in Ghana. Clarke’s areas of study include eye care in Ghana, global health, and international development.

 

Clarke graduated from the University of Ghana Medical School and studied at the West African Postgraduate Medical. He currently operates an eye clinic in Accra, Ghana, where he provides outreach services in eye care and provides various surgical procedures. Clarke is the only ophthalmologist providing corneal transplantation in Ghana.
