Fourteen years after roaming Steuben Field for the Hamilton College Continentals, Sean M. Ryan '94 was patrolling the sidelines for the New York Giants during Super Bowl 2008, in which the Giants defeated the New England Patriots 17-14. Ryan, a former Continental defensive back and outside linebacker, is now an assistant coach for the champions of the National Football League.

Ryan, a lifelong Giants fan from Hudson Falls, N.Y., is in his first season with the team as the offensive quality control coach. His job is to prepare the offense for the opponent's defense. During the week he studies game tapes and coaches the quarterbacks and wide receivers, and on game days he watches the defense and helps quarterback Eli Manning make adjustments.

"It's been as much work as I thought it would be and then some," said Ryan, in an article in the Glens Falls Post Star. "It's challenging, but you can imagine in a season like this, it makes it worth it."

Ryan spent 10 years coaching college football before landing with the Giants in 2007. He previously worked at Boston College, Columbia University and Harvard University as recruiting coordinator, running backs coach and head coach of the junior varsity football team.
