College Democrats and Republicans Debate the Issues

The College Democrat and College Republican clubs held a political debate on April 19 in the Chapel. The two groups, consisting of 3 students and 1 professor each, debated on issues including the exit strategy from Iraq, immigration reform, energy policy, lobbying reform and NSA wiretapping.

Debating for the College Democrats were Jonathan Kuhl '06, Ian Mandel '06, Rachel Horowitz '09 and Associate Dean of Students and professor of government Philip Klinkner.  The College Republicans were represented by Ben Noble '08, Stuart Lombardi '09, Kevin O'Connor '09 and visiting instructor of government Mack Mariani. The debate was moderated by Paul Bleiberg '06.

Participants answered 5 questions prepared in advance by Bleiberg, one on each of the major issues. They then responded to questions from the audience, which included questions on Iranian nuclear proliferation, partisanship in the federal government, South Dakota's abortion ban and global warming.
