Bill Ringle '44 wrote "Christmas Greetings" for Davidson News. Brenda Barger, Around Davidson correspondent, introduced him, "Today we hear from Bill Ringle, journalist extraordinaire, who was a member of the White House press corps from 1968 until 1988. Prior to his duty at 1600 Pennsylvania Ave., he spent some holidays away from his family while serving in World War II or teaching journalism in China."
We welcome Bill Ringle's contribution to DavidsonNews.net. He is an old hand at writing with his degree in English (and math) from Hamilton College and with his work for Gannett newspapers from 1968 until 1988. Bill and his wife, Marie, have three children: a daughter, Sarah, in New York City; a daughter, Christine, in Vincennes, Ind.; and a son, Bill Jr. who lives with his wife, Georgia, and daughters, Hallie and Charlotte, in the McConnell neighborhood of Davidson. After covering the Nixon/Humphrey campaign of 1968, Bill joined the White House Press Corps during the Nixon and Ford years before venturing into foreign affairs reporting until his retirement in 1988. Bill and his wife moved to The Pines this year from their home in Northern Virginia. As Bill celebrates his first Christmas with his family at The Pines Retirement Community, we know that he is creating new Christmas traditions and memories which perhaps he will share with us later in 2009. What follows is a potpourri of holiday recollections as Bill mentioned (with a twinkle in his eye) that they are the "only paltry things" he could dredge from his memory.
