Middlebury College's Adrianna Gildner scored with 1:05 left in the first sudden-victory overtime period and lifted the nationally ranked No. 14 Panthers to a 1-0 NESCAC win against the Hamilton College Continentals at Middlebury's Dragone Field on Oct. 13.

Box Score

The Panthers (8-1-2 overall, 6-1-0 NESCAC) are unbeaten in their last 10 games after an OT loss in their 2013 opener at Amherst College. Hannah Robinson was credited with an assist on Gildner's game-winner, and Kate Reinmuth made five saves for her third shutout.

Liza Gergenti '14 stopped a season-high eight shots for Hamilton (3-4-2, 1-4-2), including three in the extra period. Kendall Daly '17 took three of the Continentals' nine shots.

The overtime was all Panthers as they peppered the Hamilton net often. A flurry began in the 96th minute when Gergenti made a point-blank save on Gildner after a corner kick by Moria Sloan. Another corner followed and a shot by Robinson on the far side hit the post and bounced away.

Middlebury was able to cash in a few minutes later with Gildner's third goal this year. After a pass from Robinson, Gilder had some space on the left side 15 yards out. Her shot slid under Gergenti and deflected into the back of the net off the far post. Middlebury held a 16-9 shot advantage, including a 6-1 cushion in overtime.

Hamilton nearly scored the first goal in the 20th minute on a loose ball in the box. The ball came to Daly at the top of the 18 for a good look but Reinmuth was there for the save. Just a minute later, Middlebury’s Sarah Noble nearly converted a corner kick by Ali Omsberg, but the shot went over the net. The Panthers threatened again late in the half but Omsberg was unable to finish a cross from Jamie Soroka.

Scarlett Kirk nearly gave Middlebury a 1-0 lead in the 64th minute but her shot after a feed from Soroka went past Gergenti before it hit the inside of the right post. Middlebury’s Julia Favorito had a great look from 25 yards out in the 79th minute but her blast was tipped just over the crossbar by Gergenti.

The Continentals host Colby College for another NESCAC game on Saturday, Oct. 19, at noon.
