  • The American Mock Trial Association (AMTA) has released the first round of revisions to the 2014 college mock trial case, and Hamilton’s mock trial team is preparing for another successful season. The team’s recently announced national rank of 65 out of a competitive field of more than 600 teams has allowed Hamilton to secure an impressive tournament roster for the 2014 season, including invitational tournaments at Tufts, Yale and Cornell Universities.

  • For most students, earning a degree usually comes before starting a company, but for Curren Krasnoff '16, the call to create a business of his own was simply too strong for him to wait.

  • In his April 22 lecture, author and University of Western Ontario professor Tony Weis traced the beginning of the global food crisis to advancements in agribusiness, farm subsidies and global food aid that then forced many small scale farmers in developing countries out of business.

  • Jim Jacobs, a professor of law and director of the Center for Research in Crime and Justice at New York University School of Law visited campus to lecture on the current state of gun control legislation in the United States through the Levitt Center's Security program. Jacobs, who was on the hill at the invitation of Maynard-Knox Professor of Government and Law Frank Anechiarico, attracted a standing room only audience of students and local residents at his April 15 lecture in the KJ Red Pit.

  • Philip Terrie, Professor Emeritus at Bowling Green State University, returned to the Hill for the third time on April 9 to deliver a lecture on the current state of the Adirondack Park. Terrie’s visit to Hamilton came at the invitation of William R. Kenan Professor of Biology Ernest Williams who is currently teaching the college’s interdisciplinary Adirondacks course, Culture and History of the Adirondack Park.

  • Under former Inspector General of the Department of the Interior Earl E. Devaney, the Recovery Accountability and Transparency Board (RATB) has served as watchdog of  the $800 million American Reinvestment and Recovery Act.  Devaney described the board’s work in a lecture on March 7 that was part of the Levitt Center’s Security Program.

  • Hamilton’s Maurice Horowitch Career Center is without doubt one of the most valuable assets on campus for students preparing to make the transition off the Hill and into the “real world,” but sometimes stepping through the doorway and into the third floor of Bristol can be a little intimidating. To address this issue, the Career Center has teamed up with the Days-Massolo Center to offer a collaborative workshop series spread out over the course of the second semester.

  • Breena Holland, associate professor of political science and the environmental initiative at Lehigh University, takes a different approach to academic research than many of her colleagues. Holland is less interested in massive data driven studies and more concerned with the real world impact of her work. That’s why much of her time has been spent conducting research intended to directly benefit underprivileged members of Lehigh’s local community of Bethlehem, Pa.  Holland was a guest speaker in the Levitt Center Sustainability series on Feb. 7.

  • After a historic top-24 national championship finish in the 2012 season, Hamilton’s mock trial team has managed yet another impressive feat by taking home first place at the Cornell University Big Red Invitational Tournament.

  • Samantha Sherman ’15 has taken to heart the oft-repeated advice of Hamilton College’s Maurice Horowitch Career Center to “get started early” when it comes to career related experience. Although only a rising sophomore, Sherman has spent the past two months working in a marketing and public relations internship at the Hamilton Farm Golf Club in Gladstone, N.J.
