  • After spending the day on campus visiting classes and talking with Hamilton students, this year’s Sacerdote Great Names Series speakers, Nobel Peace Prize laureates Dr. Bernard Kouchner and Shirin Ebadi, took to a stage in the Margaret Bundy Scott Field House on April 24 to address a gathering of the Hamilton community and guests.

Christine Jonson, former director of the Higher Education Opportunities Program at Hamilton, the campus community was invited to share their evening with Dr. Cornel West, a renowned academic and social justice advocate who gave a lecture to a packed house in Wellin Hall.

  • In a lecture on March 5 Sol M. Linowitz Professor of International Affairs Karl F. Inderfurth outlined how and why India may now be poised to become the world’s next great superpower.

  • After a busy fall semester that included a massive voter registration drive and watch parties for the presidential debates and election night, the College Democrats and College Republicans have shifted their focus this semester to achieving their common goal of increasing political engagement on campus. This week, they hosted a debate that pitted two teams against each other on a controversial subject in a forum that made room for audience participation.

  • Arlene Blum’s Feb. 21 lecture at Hamilton on “mountains and molecules” began with an autobiographical account of how she has built a remarkable career in otherwise unlikely circumstances.  Blum is founder and executive director of the Green Science Policy Institute (GSPI), an organization that serves as a watchdog group for regulations that may have adverse health effects.

  • Hamilton’s Career Center is constantly evolving and creating new programming to help students achieve success following graduation. On Jan. 27 the Career Center launched its newest program, Interview Mojo, which focused on the skill of job interviewing and the ways in which it can be practiced and improved.

  • Although many Hamilton students just finished arriving on campus for the spring semester, a group of 55 students quickly turned around and boarded a bus late Sunday night for a 24-hour round trip to Washington, D.C., to attend the Inauguration Day ceremony for President Barack Obama’s second term.

  • As final exams approach, many Hamilton students are facing one last mountain of work before they can head home for the holidays. Perhaps appropriate for this season and providing a welcome break from all the studying, Hamilton welcomed prize-winning author Wade Davis on Dec. 12 to discuss his award-winning work, Into the Silence: The Great War, Mallory, and the Conquest of Everest.
