  • Students selected to read their work during this event:  Katie Naughton '08 and Emily Tang '08, winners of the Thomas E. Meehan Prize in Creative Writing; Christopher Parmenter '10, winner of the Adam Gordon Poetry Prize for Freshmen; Fiona MacQuarrie '09, winner of the Rose B. Tager Prize in Fiction; Rachel Richardson '09, winner of the George A. Watrous Prize in Poetry; and Nicole Dietsche '09, winner of the George A. Watrous Prize in Fiction.

  • Students from Professor of Government Theodore Eismeier's American Political Process class gave presentations on the major candidates. The students chose who they wanted to represent and gave presentations on their candidate's political platform.  For the Democrats, Anna Scott '11 represented Barack Obama, Lindsay Getman '10, Jacob Kleinrock '11 and Jenna Cohen '10 represented Hilary Clinton, and Tom Yarnell '10 gave his support for John Edwards.  The Republicans were represented by Jeff Corbett '09 for Fred Thompson, Frank Matt '10 for Mitt Romney and Ed Ajaeb '11 and Gates Helms '11 for Rudy Giuliani.

  • Mike Barlow '75 is the author of Partnering With the CIO: The Future of IT Sales Seen Through the Eyes of Key Decision Makers (John Wiley & Sons, 2007). His co-author is Michael Minelli. According to a review CIOs (Chief Investment Officers – the executives who make and influence major IT processing decisions) spend more than $1.2 trillion on software and hardware each year. Partnering with the CIO looks at the InfoTech sales process from the CIO's perspective. Barlow '75  is an award-winning journalist, seasoned media professional and management consultant. He graduated from Hamilton College with a degree in English Literature.

  • The Hamilton College Departments of Music and Dance welcome parents and siblings to a busy weekend of free concerts in Wellin Hall for Family Weekend.  The Hamilton College Choir and College Hill Singers will share a program with the Department of Dance on Friday at 8 p.m. and Saturday at 1:30 p.m. 

  • Parents of the the Class of 2008 will be honored at a reception and wine tasting from 4 to 5:30 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 9 of Family Weekend in the Dwight Lounge of the Bristol Center. Hamilton's Edward North Professor of Classics (and wine aficionado) Carl Rubino will lead the tasting of a selection from the Peconic and Cakebread wineries. (both have Hamilton connections!) Executive Assistant to the President Meredith Harper Bonham, who oversees Commencement weekend, will join them to provide a preview of the May 2008 graduation festivities.   • A "Taste of the Mohawk Valley" reception will be held from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 9 in the Field House. This Family Weekend event hosted by President Joan Hinde Stewart and Dean Joseph Urgo will give Hamilton parents an opportunity to meet other parents as well as Hamilton faculty members and staff. The reception will feature foods unique to Central New York provided by Bon Appetit and area restaurants will offer samples of their menus and prizes of dining-out gift certificates. Entertainment will be provided by student groups HEAT, Tropical Sol and Capoeira.

  • Read Orpheus Lost by Janette Turner Hospital, and join the author for reading and discussion on Friday, Nov. 9 at 2:30 p.m. in the Great Room at Spencer House. Turner Hospital is Carolina Distinguished Professor of English at the University of South Carolina, and this event is sponsored by English Department and Office of the President.

  • Sarah Zeigler '05 received a masters in musical theater from the Boston Conservatory and is auditioning for parts in New York City. Watch for news of her Broadway debut!
