Biography - Sidney Wertimer

Sidney Wertimer was born in Buffalo, NY on 28 October 1920 and today lives in Clinton, NY. He attended Nichols High School in Buffalo, University of Pennsylvania (B.S., 1942), University of Buffalo (M.A., 1949), and the London School of Economics (Ph.D., 1952). From 1942 - 1946 he was an officer in the U.S. Navy. He was and instructor at Buffalo (1947-50) and joined the Hamilton College faculty in 1952. He served as Associate Dean of the College (1957 - 65), Chair of the Economics Department (1967 - 75), and Provost from 1975 - 1980. Since his retirement from full-time teaching at the college in 1991 he has continued to teach an accounting course once a year and is active in alumni reunion activities.


Biography - William Alexander Jamison

William Alexander Jamison was born in Pittsburgh, PA on 24 April 1927 and died on 21 March 1995 in Pittsfield, MA. He attended the University of Pittsburgh (A.B., 1943), and Princeton University (A.M., 1945 and Ph.D., 1952). He taught English at the University of Rochester for 17 years before joining the Houghton Mifflin Publishing Company in 1963. He joined the Kirkland College faculty in 1970 and was the Acting Chair of the Humanities Division, wrote the self-study of Kirkland for MSA accreditation, Director of Institutional Affairs, and at Hamilton, Director of Personnel and Director Special Programs. Jamison retired in 1983.

Contains professional correspondences of Sidney Wertimer and William A. Jamison with various college offices and administrators while they were Hamilton College Provost and Kirkland College Director of Institutional Affairs, resprectively. Correspondences and files provide an excellent description of the operation (Administrative as well as Academic Affairs) of both colleges during the period 1972 - 1980, including the dissoloution of Kirkland College and its merger with Hamilton College.
