HiF comprehensive tuition and fees cover many amenities including (see details below)

Tuition and Fees Covers
  • All Instruction & Advising: All courses including orientation; registration tuition at partner universities and institutions where students take courses for credit; cost of internship for selected students; visits and events included in designated courses or required for some courses; and tutorial sessions for designated classes. Students receive personal advising in support of their individual academic goals.
    *Note: Tuition insurance is highly recommended and automatically applied by Hamilton College. Students wishing to opt out of tuition insurance must contact the Student Accounts Office at Hamilton College.
  • International Health Insurance: This insurance covers medical and emergency evacuation costs for illness, accident, injury that occur while abroad (additional details). All students receive a Consulate letter  for their Visa Application.
    *Note: Students must still maintain proof of personal accident and health insurance (through home or school). Students also have the option to purchase additional insurance for personal effects in France for approximately 100 dollars.
  • Note: Insurance provider for 2024-25 is GeoBlue. 
  • Homestay: Room and half-board as stipulated under housing/homestays. Five dinners and all breakfasts when classes are in session. Room without board or cooking facilities during breaks.
  • Cultural Excursions: A program of study trips that includes travel, lodging, all meals, visits by specialists, and group cultural activities (visits, films, exhibitions) in and around Paris. Access to a program of high quality speakers at Reid Hall through Columbia Global Centers.
  • Stipend: HiF reimburses up to $75 a semester for wellness/sports activities and $75 for French-related cultural activities. These are reimbursed against receipts at the end of the semester.
Other Billable Expenses
  • Group Travel: Round-trip flight from a designated US airport (usually JFK) to France, and return from Paris to the same airport at the end of the year or the semester. Estimated cost is $1400-$1600. Students will be given the exact cost before they have to commit to the group flight. 
    • Beginning with the fall 2023 term, Hamilton College will pay the travel agent booking the group flight directly and students participating in the flight will get billed by Hamilton College for the exact cost of their tickets.
      *Note: At this time, students are strongly encouraged to use our group flight with our own travel agent. Students who have reasons to travel independently will have the cost of the flight removed from their bill.  Students will be informed of deadline to choose group flight or not, procedures and costs around Mid-April/May for Fall and AY and end of October/early November for Spring. 
Not Included
  • Passport and visa (approx $450 + travel to the French consulate in the U.S.)
  • Health insurance (domestic)
  • Personal expenses
  • Two dinners and all lunches when classes are in session (no meals provided during vacation)
  • Textbooks and study materials (approx $200 per semester)
  • Cost of private music lessons or materials for fine arts classes
  • Cost for baggage in excess of amount allowed by airline
  • Laundry and dry cleaning in excess of agreement with host
  • Paris transportation pass (approx $425 per semester)
  • Fees for sports activities; non-credit bearing extracurricular activities
  • Trips not organized by the program; lunches and two dinners per week
  • Board during winter and spring vacations (room is available during vacations, but no cooking facilities or meals provided).
