Fellowship Advising

Victoria (Tori) Morrow ’14 has been awarded a summer fellowship at the University of Michigan to do work in classics and medieval studies through the university’s Summer Research Opportunity Program (SROP).  The SROP brings talented underrepresented students to Ann Arbor to work with faculty mentors on research projects during two months in the summer. Morrow is a classics major.

Nicholas Perry ’11 has been awarded a Fulbright English Teaching Assistantship to Malaysia. Perry is a world politics and Russian studies major.

Alexander Benkhart ’11 has been awarded a Fulbright Grant to Japan. He will spend the 2011-12 academic year studying depictions of homosexuality in Japanese popular culture, and the relationship between the concepts expressed in popular culture and the identity politics of the Japanese gay rights movement. As an integral part of his research, he will continue to engage in intensive language study to familiarize himself with the vocabulary and methods of expressing and describing sexuality in the Japanese language.

Erica Kowsz, a candidate for May graduation from Hamilton, has been awarded a Fulbright Grant to Vancouver, British Columbia,  Canada. She will spend the 2011-12 academic year conducting fieldwork among the Sinixt First Nation in the Slocan Valley. Kowsz will produce an ethnographic film exploring the connections between indigenous conceptions of past, place and identity and how these understandings relate to archaeology.

Rem Van Aiken Myers, a candidate for May graduation from Hamilton, has been awarded a Fulbright English Teaching Assistantship (ETA) to Indonesia.

Caroline Davis, a candidate for May graduation from Hamilton, has been awarded a Fulbright Grant to Kenya. She will spend the 2011-12 academic year studying methods of transitional justice among Internally Displaced Peoples (IDPs) in the Rift Valley province of Kenya.

Dani Forshay '11, a candidate for May graduation from Hamilton, has been awarded a Fulbright English Teaching Assistantship (ETA) to Russia.

Alexandria Nicholson-Dotson ’11 has been awarded Hamilton’s prestigious Bristol Fellowship. The Bristol Fellowship was begun in 1996 as part of a gift to the college by William M. Bristol Jr., (Class of 1917).  Created by his family, the fellowship is designed to encourage Hamilton students to experience the richness of the world by living outside the United States for one year and studying an area of great personal interest.

Taylor Adams '11 and Deborah Barany '11 have been awarded National Science Foundation (NSF) Graduate Research Fellowships. Adams, a chemistry major, and Barany who is majoring in neuroscience, will both receive a three-year annual stipend of $30,000 and a $10,500 cost-of -education allowance for tuition and fees, and the freedom to conduct their own research at any accredited U.S. or foreign institution of graduate education they choose.

Connor Brown ’12 and Julia Litzky ’12 have been named Barry M. Goldwater Scholars for the 2011-12 academic year. They are among 275 scholars from across the U.S. to receive the Goldwater, the premier national undergraduate award in the fields of mathematics, the natural sciences and engineering.
